Green Match Fund 2025

Help us raise £20,000 to support community-led environmental work in the Highlands and Islands.

We’re excited to share that we are taking part in the Big Give Green Match Fund 2025 – a week long fundraising campaign. From April 22nd – 29th, every £1 donated will be matched by the Big Give, meaning if you donate £5, we recieve £10.

Why do we need funding?

Nature in the Highlands and Islands needs your help. The forests, coastlines, and peatbogs that make this place special are severely degraded, putting species such as Atlantic Salmon at risk of extinction. Local communities are tackling these challenges head on through projects that protect and restore nature – but they require urgent funding.

What will the funds support?

Funds will help us support a variety of impactful grassroots projects that protect and restore nature throughout the Highlands and Islands. These range from direct restoration work, such as temperate rainforest habitat creation, to strategic projects that drive long-term change, such as marine litter policy work.

Why HIEF?

We have the unique ability to pool donations together, and disburse them effectively, awarding grants to impactful and innovative projects. We make grant decisions strategically, funding projects that can be replicated elsewhere. For example, supporting one of Scotland’s first farm clusters (West Loch Ness) led to new groups emerging in Moray, Glen Urquhart, and Lunan Burn.

Since launching in 2020, we have awarded over £650,000 to 54 different projects throughout the Highlands and Islands. This has delivered tangible environmental benefits, while empowering local communities to tackle environmental challenges, through capacity building, education, and awareness raising.

Our affiliation with the Conservation Collective, a global network of 20 locally-focused environmental foundations, enables us to access international expertise and best-practice in grassroots environmental funding.

How do I donate?

The link to donate will be posted here at 12 noon on the 22nd of April. Donations are made through the Big Give portal. For more information, please contact louis@hief.scot.
