Despite their value, upland ponds and bog pools are disappearing due to increasing temperatures, erratic rainfall, drainage installation, peat cutting and natural vegetative succession.

This project will restore, reconnect, and create wetland habitats for amphibians and invertebrates across the north and east coast of Scotland. This funding is specifically for the development phase of the project, involving extensive surveys, landowner engagement and habitat restoration plans. The eventual delivery phase will restore or create 90 ponds, providing vital habitat for amphibian and invertebrate populations.
