In 2002, Highland Perthshire Communities Land Trust (HPCLT) purchased Dùn Coillich, a 421-hectare site which had been heavily impacted by historic deer browsing and habitat degradation. Over the past 25 years, HPCLT has led the restoration of native woodland, wetlands and upland habitats, transforming Dùn Coillich into a nationally recognised example of community-led ecological restoration.

HPCLT now holds approximately 25 years of ecological data from Dùn Coillich, but the information is dispersed across reports, spreadsheets, maps, photographs and volunteer records. This project will review and prioritise that evidence, consolidate the most useful datasets, assess data quality and gaps, and develop a practical Ecological Health Indicator Framework. The outputs will help HPCLT track ecological restoration, focus future monitoring, support volunteer participation, inform land management decisions and communicate the story of Dùn Coillich’s recovery to members, funders, schools and the wider community.
