HIEF Spring Update

Some exciting announcements to share with you in this newsletter – we’ve published a 2 Year Review, and we’re taking part in the Green Match Fund fundraising campaign!Before getting carried away by these ~thrilling~ new developments, we thought it apt to reflect on the winter-past. In this news post, we celebrate the achievements of several HIEF funded projects that came to an end in recent months.

2 Year Review 

We are delighted to share our 2 Year Review! This report showcases some of the inspirational projects we’ve supported over 2023 and 2024, sharing several case studies and collating overall impact. It’s available to download and read here: 2 Year Review.

Green Match Fund

Save the date of our Green Match Fund fundraising campaign from the 22nd – 29th April. For this week only, all donations to HIEF will be DOUBLED by the Big Give.

We are aiming to raise £20,000 to continue supporting grassroots environmental work in the Highlands and Islands. Your support would be much appreciated – whether that is through donating directly or helping us share the word with your network. We’ll be in touch again on launch day (22nd April) with more information and the link to donate.

We are accepting applications for our next round of funding. Grants of up to £15,000 are available for community-led projects aiming to protect or restore nature in the Highlands and Islands. The deadline to complete and submit an Expression of Interest form is 2nd of June. Prospective applicants are encouraged to discuss their ideas with us before submitting. The form, and full criteria, can be on found on the HIEF website.

Further application rounds will take place in the autumn, deadline 1st September.

New Grants

Scotland’s fishing and aquaculture pollution problem: building the evidence base 

  • Grantee: Marine Conservation Society
  • Grant amount: £16,369

Led by the Marine Conservation Society, in partnership with the Scottish Islands Federation, this project will establish a new fishing and aquaculture beach litter data collection process. Evidence produced from this project will directly feed in to future work and help guide policy solutions that reduce plastic pollution.

This project is funded through the Conservation Collective partnership with Depeche Mode & Hublot (see here).
