Ridding Gigha of skunk cabbage

This project will target 10.5 hectares of the invasive non-native species American skunk cabbage. Taking place over two years, the removal project will involve a combination of Ranger Service work and specialist contractor visits.
Arrochar litter sink
- Grantee: The GRAB Trust

Through participation in the Government-backed CivTech programme, the GRAB Trust are hoping to pilot an innovative technical solution to the Arrochar litter sink.
Kintyre seagrass community engagement
- Grantee: Kintyre Coastal Network

This HIEF grant will enable Kintyre Coastal Network to expand the community engagement side of their seagrass restoration project. At first, this will involve community outreach events, and a series of talks and presentations with local groups and schools.
Bac Dubh peatland restoration

Bac Dubh is a 92-acre site adjacent to the village of Poolewe, Wester Ross. This project will restore peatland through building ‘leaky dams’ on a burn to hold back water, enhancing the biodiversity of the burn and surrounding peatland.

Drone seeding is an emerging approach to mimic natural seed dispersal to boost woodland regeneration. The Loch Abar Mòr team will pilot this method on an area of burnt ground, aiming to accelerate native woodland regeneration.
Sanday dune restoration

Various different management measures, ranging from reducing visitor pressure through gates and signage, to re-planting grasses into over grazed areas, will be trialled to reverse the degradation of sand dunes on Sanday, Orkney.
Arran community rainforest nursery

This project focuses on establishing a community tree nursery at Drumadoon estate. Seeds from local trees, including the rare endemic whitebeam species, will be collected by community volunteers and relocated to different groups on the island to boost temperate rainforest restoration.
