Despite our iconic native species, world-famous landscapes, and rich cultural heritage, Scotland is officially classed as one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world. One in nine species are now at risk of extinction.

The Highlands and Islands, defined geographically as the historic Gaelic-speaking region of Scotland, have been experiencing ecological degradation for hundreds of years. However, passionate individuals and communities throughout the region are working hard to protect and restore nature.
